I can guess what you’re thinking when you see the Your Best Year Ever book.
Isn’t it already a little tad too late to talk about having this year being your best year ever when March is almost over by the time this post goes live?
Well, I had the same thought too when I began reading this book not too long ago.
This book makes perfect sense if I’m recommending it in early January or at least in December the year before.
But it sure looks like I’m already late to the party now that April is around the corner.
If that’s how you feel about your year so far with your goals feeling so distant to you, let me assure you it’s never too late to start working on your goals.
And if you need help in making your dreams and goals come true for sure, then this book got you covered.
What Your Best Year Ever book is all about
Here’s the book description that I got from Amazon.
We all want to live a life that matters. We all want to reach our full potential. But too often we find ourselves overwhelmed by the day-to-day. Our big goals get pushed to the back burner–and then, more often than not, they get forgotten. New York Times bestselling author Michael Hyatt wants readers to know that it doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, he thinks that this is the year readers can finally close the gap between reality and their dreams.
In Your Best Year Ever, Hyatt shares a powerful, proven, research-driven system for setting and achieving goals. Readers learn how to design their best year ever in just five hours
– three simple ways to triple the likelihood of achieving their goals
– how to quit-proof their goals
– what to do when they feel stuck
– and much moreAnyone who is tired of not seeing progress in their personal, intellectual, business, relationship, or financial goals will treasure the field-tested wisdom found in these pages.
What got me to read this book
I already knew about Michael Hyatt’s course with the same name before.
But knowing my nature, signing up with an online course tends to be a hard pass for me since it was way out of my budget no matter how desperate I need it.
Believe it or not, I prefer to learn anything from books since I can always go back to the book if I need a quick refresher.
It was only when Pat Flynn mentioned this course in his newsletter that brought my attention back to the course.
Did I sign up for the course?
Well, you can bet that I didn’t.
But I did get the book instead since that’s my preferred way to learn things.
And it’s on point with my budget too.
What makes Your Best Year Ever book worth reading
Let’s be honest here, we have plenty of books out there that talk about goal-setting.
So, what makes this book any different from other goal-setting books out there?
Not going to lie that the premise of goal-setting tends to boil down to the system that you implement to achieve the goals.
But what sets this book apart is that not only Michael Hyatt take a slightly different twist with the usual SMART goals acronym.
He also addresses the scientific reasons why many people fail to achieve their goals.
Before you work on your goals, it’s best to identify what causes you to fail in achieving the goals.
Address what’s stopping you from achieving the goals and achieving them will become less of an uphill battle.
And this approach doesn’t just apply to the one-time goal. You can even use the same approach for the habitual goals as well.
Another thing that I love about this book is that it also covers goals for other aspects of your life that you may need to pay attention to.
After all, there’s no point in having a successful business and career when other parts of your life are in shamble.
If your idea of having your best year ever goes way deeper than having a successful business and career, then you can use the guidelines provided in the book to set goals for a well-balanced and happier life.
What you should know about the book
Just like any other nonfiction book out there, you can’t just read the book and expect your life to turn out for the better as soon as you put it on the shelf.
Yes, you will have to do the book.
And that means doing the action plans outlined at the end of the main chapters.
Another thing to note is that while Michael recommends you get his Full Focus Planner to make tracking your goals easier, you can do the same on a blank notebook if you prefer.
As you’re already aware, I’m a big fan of bullet journaling and it will be what I’m using to keep track of everything.
If you’re curious about bullet journaling, then I highly recommend you have a look at The Bullet Journal Method book by Ryder Carroll.
You can also read my thoughts about the book right here if you’re interested.
Who should read the book?
If you’re struggling to achieve your goals and looking for a systematic way to set and keep track of your goals, then this book is for you.
Will reading this book bring you closer to your goals?
Well, I can’t answer that question for you.
But I do know it can as long as you do the action plans outlined in the book. And you do take the necessary actions needed instead of getting stuck in the analysis paralysis mode.
